Brian's Picks
1-Sommariva Prosecco Superiore Brut Valdobbiadene Italy
$23.99 bottle and by the six pack $21.00 bottle
In the shadow of the Alps, poor, well-draining soils at higher altitude yield elegant, aromatic bubbly worlds apart from the mass-produced wines flooding the market. Cinzia Sommariva is an adamant ambassador of the style, following in her parents’ footsteps to consistently craft a Prosecco of total class and charm—no mimosas necessary.
2-Clos Sainte Magdeleine 2023 Mediterranee Blanc Provence France
Wine Spectator 92 Rating
$29.99 bottle and by the six pack $26.00 bottle
Alluring notes of peach, green melon and meadow flowers are fresh and pure, revealing savory details of cut chives and flint smoke. Medium-weight and built upon a crushed mineral foundation, with great length and energy. Marsanne, Ugni Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc. Drink now through 2028. Only 549 cases imported.
3-Kistler Vineyards 2023 ‘Les Noisetiers’ Chardonnay Sonoma Coast California
$69.99 bottle and by the six pack $62.00 bottle
This ‘Les Noisetiers’ Chardonnay is Kistler’s multi-vineyard Chardonnay bottling based on the three Sonoma Coast vineyards from which they bottle single vineyard examples; Vine Hill, Trenton Roadhouse and Dutton Ranch. ‘Noisetiers’ means ‘hazelnut’ in French and “refers to the lightly toasted hazelnut characters manifested year in and year out from these sites.” As with the vineyard-designates, this wine is barrel fermented and aged on the lees in 25% new three year air-dried French oak barrels for 11 months, after which time it is transferred to stainless steel tank for another three months of aging before bottling.
4-Kistler 2023 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Sonoma County California
$79.99 bottle and by the six pack $65.00 bottle
Very limited production from the Russian River Valley. This is a concentrated Pinot Noir, with impressive energy. The wine offers a complex bouquet of red currants, smoked earth, ground pepper, and exotic floral and rose hip notes. Rich, medium-bodied, and seamless on the palate, it’s incredibly classy as well as perfectly balanced.
5-Tenuta La Pergola 2022 Monferrato Rosso Piedmont Italy

The fruit is vibrant and balanced, evoking fresh and dried strawberries, tart cherries, and an earthy finish framed by cocoa and almond nuances.
6-Héritage du Pic Saint Loup 2022 Tour de Pierres Pic-Saint-Loup Languedoc France
$21.99 bottle and by the six pack $18.00 bottle
50% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre. The three brothers at Héritage du Pic Saint Loup farm their steep, rugged vineyards biodynamically in the Languedoc’s coolest, northernmost appellation, where Syrah, Grenache, and a few other cépages convey a perfect duality of plump Mediterranean richness and savory, floral tones recalling more northerly wines. Chewy, vigorous, and refreshing, with notes of black olive, wild herbs, and brambly fruit, the Ravailles’ Tour de Pierres cuvée really does check all the boxes. Aged in foudres and barriques for 12 months. Unfined and unfiltered. Biodynamic and organic.
7-Famille Brunier 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Piedlong Southern Rhone Valley France
Wine Advocate 94 Rating
$59.99 bottle and by the six pack $50.00 bottle
Piedlong's 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre from the lieu-dit of the same name. Scents of roses, red berries and citrus zest appear on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is silky and elegant, with a hint of cracked pepper on the lingering finish.
8-Giulia Negri 2023 Nebbiolo Pian Delle Mole Langhe Piedmont Italy
$41.99 bottle and by the six pack $35.00
Giulia Negri is a rock star young grower in the La Morra area of Barolo. Her Langhe Nebbiolo "Pian delle Mole" may be the best value in all of Piedmont. Giulia took the helm of the family estate when she was just 24 years old. Her vines are perched high in the hills of La Morra in the Serradenari cru, cresting at over 536 meters on nutrient-poor limestone soil. These are some of the highest vineyards in all of Barolo and the cooler microclimate here helps add an extra measure of freshness to her wines. Giulia crafts hauntingly pure and lithe Nebbiolo from these windswept vineyards, and draws a lot of inspiration from the great wines of Burgundy. These delicate wines with minerality woven through them reflect not only the land they come from, but also the unique skill of the woman who made them.
