1-Poggio Scalette 2017 Alta Valle della Greve Il Carbonaione Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 95 Rating

An alluring array of blackberry, black cherry and violet aromas introduces this supple, elegant red. Spice, mineral and tobacco elements emerge, along with firm, refined tannins, but this is all about the pure fruit. Shows terrific harmony and length. Sangiovese. Best from 2022 through 2040.

2-Caparzo 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 95 Rating

This cuts more of a broad swath than its peers, yet remains graceful, evoking strawberry, cherry, tobacco and stony mineral flavors. Long and dense in structure, with a tobacco- and underbrush-tinged finish. Best from 2021 through 2033.

3-Castello Di Neive 2018 Barbaresco Santo Stefano Piedmont Italy
Wine Enthusiast 97 Rating A Cellar Selection

This stunning wine opens with enticing aromas of menthol, star anise, wild berry and tobacco. Full-bodied yet weightless and boasting great energy, the delicious palate delivers ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and baking spice framed in firm, refined tannins. It's well-balanced by fresh acidity. Drink 2026–2038.

4-Cantina del Taburno 2015 Bue Apis Aglianico del Taburno Campania Italy
The Bue Apis is produced exclusively from grapes Aglianico from a century-old vineyard located in the district “Pantanella” at about 1000 meters from the Taburno cellar. This testifies to the ancient vineyard presence of Aglianico the slopes of Mount Taburno. The vinification of grapes from it obtained, the so-called original clone Aglianico bitter, is one of the paths that the Cantina del Taburno has undertaken to highlight the extraordinary potential of this ancient grape variety.

5-Massolino 2015 Barolo Piedmont Italy
James Suckling 93 Rating

Very fresh and attractive Barolo with abundant red cherries and a wealth of sweet, rose-petal aromas, too. The palate has a very plush, fleshy and juicy core of fruit in the red-cherry zone. The tannins are velvety and long. One of the more approachable 2015s. Drink or hold.

6-Castello di Volpaia 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Tuscany Italy
Wine Spectator 97 Rating

Enticing aromas of black cherry, black currant and violet are allied to flavors of iron, wet earth and spice in this red, which is loaded with fruit, vibrant acidity and well-mannered tannins. Shows terrific harmony now, yet possesses the structure to age. The long, mouthwatering finish extends the dark fruit and mineral elements. Best from 2021 through 2040.
